For armed professionals, accurate hits on enemy combatants or adversaries are a training goal, operational requirement and moral imperative. The LEO wants to stop the aggressor without injuring (or worse) innocent bystanders. The soldier wants to complete his mission with his team intact and no collateral damage. The PSO wants to deliver accurate defensive fire while extricating his principle.

Targets are a very important part of tactical training that get little coverage. A good target for tactical training should have realistic strike zones that stimulate/reward strikes in combat effective zones. Without getting into a long drawn out discussion on wound ballistics, Central Nervous System (CNS) hits are fight stoppers. Multiple hits to the thoracic region are fight stoppers, albeit slower and less reliable than a CNS hit, as it will damage the life sustainment system housed within the chest.

Training with undersized target offers many advantages. The primary being: it slows the operator down and forces them to concentrate on the fundamentals of rapid accurate sight acquisition. Regular training with smaller targets will speed up sight acquisition on full size targets and actual threats. 

Any training done with Under Platforms, whether .22LR or Airsoft, should be down with undersized targetry. This will force the operator to use good technique as the recoil from Under Platforms is minimal. With the shortage of both funds and ammunition, Under Platform training will take on more prevalence.

Incorporating NoShoot targets will force target identification and keep your OODA loop flowing. The requirement for Threat PID (Positive Identification) is a reality of operations, so it is required in any relevant training cycle.
